For two years I told myself I would learn properly when I had time. I was waiting for a free month that never arrived. In the end a friend suggested something smaller: ten minutes a day, at the same time, whether or not I felt like it. I thought it was far too little to matter. What surprised me was not the progress — it was how rarely I missed a day once the time was fixed. Deciding when to study had been the hard part all along, and I had been spending my energy on that instead of on the language. A year later I still do not have a free month. I do have several hundred short sessions behind me, which turns out to be worth considerably more.
